CONCERTS AND RECITALS WITH EQUINOX

Experience the Versatility of the Saxophone Ensemble

The Equinox Saxophone Ensemble is a vibrant, Nottingham-based group of nine accomplished saxophonists who are passionate about bringing the rich, expressive sound of the saxophone family to audiences across the UK. Whether you’re planning a concert series, a music festival, a church recital, or an educational outreach programme, Equinox delivers unforgettable performances that challenge expectations and celebrate musical diversity.

Founded in 2004, the ensemble has steadily built a reputation for captivating programmes, innovative repertoire, and engaging presentation. Our concerts blend musical excellence with narrative, humour, and thoughtful commentary, creating a memorable experience for both seasoned concert-goers and first-time listeners. Every performance is a celebration of the saxophone’s surprising versatility – from baroque transcriptions and romantic melodies to toe-tapping jazz standards and cutting-edge contemporary works.

Our Approach to Performance

What sets Equinox apart is our commitment to accessible, high-quality live music. Each recital is carefully curated to balance musical depth with audience enjoyment. Our programmes are diverse and imaginative, often built around a theme or concept that connects pieces from different genres and time periods.

We also take pride in introducing audiences to the lesser-known potential of the saxophone ensemble. While many people associate the saxophone with jazz, our performances demonstrate its elegance in classical settings, its power in cinematic soundscapes, and its warmth in folk-inspired melodies. Every performance includes all four standard saxophones – soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone – and also extend to include bass and sopranino, offering a range of tone and texture unmatched by most ensembles.

Tailored Programmes for All Settings

Equinox is available for:

  • Concert series and music societies

  • Church and cathedral recitals

  • Festival stages and cultural events

  • Educational institutions and outreach projects

  • Private functions and bespoke musical events

Our members include professional musicians, composers, music educators and graduates from conservatoires and universities across the UK. This experience allows us to adapt our programmes for different audiences – whether you're hosting a formal recital, a relaxed afternoon concert, or an interactive family event.

We also provide short introductions to pieces during concerts, offering audiences insight into the music without overwhelming them with technical detail. For educational settings, we can include pre-concert talks or workshops tailored for students and young musicians.
