Standing ovation at Fakenham
(May 23, 2011)Judging by the warm and enthusiastic audience response, Equinox won some new friends after their recent performance in Fakenham. On Saturday 21st May 2011 the beautiful parish church in the Norfolk market town provided the perfect acoustic setting for the blended sound of the group. With repertoire drawn from across four centuries, from baroque to contemporary styles, the choice of programme enabled the group to show the flexibility of style for which it has become known.
Highlights included a stunning performance of Cimarosa's Oboe Concerto with solo from Sarah Markham, the infectious energy of the Benny Goodman classic Sing, Sing, Sing, with solos from clarinettist Gayle Lond, drummer Jon Oldershaw and 'trumpeter' Alistair Parnell with his amazing electronic saxophone. As well as familiar toe-tappers, Equinox also introduced the audience to some new and original repertoire, including Keiron Anderson's Harlequin Dances, April by Chris Jolly, and the haunting Babadag written by Equinox director Alistair Parnell.
This was the first visit to Norfolk by Equinox, and if the standing ovation from the audience is anything to go by, it won't be the last.
